CLEANING CHEMICALSProtect freshly cleaned carpets and fabric surfaces from everyday spills and soil with AGAR Protector Water Based 5L. This professional water-based treatment is designed to create an invisible protective barrier around fibres, helping repel water-based and oil-based spills and stains before they penetrate deeply into the material.
AGAR Protector is based on fluoropolymer technology and is specifically formulated for spray application. Once applied correctly, the treatment forms a barrier around carpet and fabric fibres that helps resist soil and stain penetration. This gives cleaning professionals more opportunity to blot or sponge spillages before they develop into permanent stains.
Unlike solvent-based fabric protection products, Protector is formulated as a water-based treatment. AGAR states that it is non-flammable, phosphate-free and free from hydrocarbons, while providing a pleasant floral odour. The formulation is classified as low foaming and cationic, with a pH of 5.5–6.5.
Protector should be applied to new or properly cleaned carpets. AGAR specifies its use on carpets that have been cleaned by hot water extraction and rinsing, as well as drapes, rugs, cloth items and fabric-upholstered furniture. It is not designed for leather.
After application, the product typically requires around 4–6 hours to dry, depending on temperature, humidity, fibre density and application rate. AGAR describes Protector as an air-cured treatment that reaches a high level of stain repellency as it dries and continues to develop more repellency over the following weeks. Where practical, AGAR recommends allowing carpet to remain unused for 24 hours before returning it to service.
AGAR specifies spray application using an electric or pressurised spray gun with a #8004 Tee Jet nozzle. For a dry carpet, the standard dilution is 1 part Protector to 4 parts water, with a prepared 5L solution covering approximately 20 m² (215 ft²) under the manufacturer’s stated conditions. Different dilution rates apply to damp carpets and retreatment applications.
AGAR states that Protector conforms with statutory environmental requirements and that its containers can be cleaned and reused when returned to AGAR, or recycled. AGAR’s chemical products are also controlled under its Quality Management System, externally audited against AS/NZS ISO 9001 requirements.
