Actichem Defender SV Water Repellent Sealer

Premium Solvent-Based Penetrating Sealer for Porous Stone, Concrete & Masonry

Actichem Defender SV is a premium solvent-based penetrating water-repellent designed to provide long-lasting protection for porous natural stone, concrete, masonry and other suitable construction materials. Its penetrating formulation absorbs into porous substrates to help create a powerful water-repellent barrier while maintaining the natural appearance of the treated surface.

Rather than forming a visible surface film, Defender SV penetrates into the substrate to help protect against water ingress and water-borne contaminants. Actichem also identifies protection against chloride ions, efflorescence and biological growth as key benefits. The treatment can help reduce deterioration associated with moisture, salt attack, weathering and freeze-thaw conditions.

💧 Key Benefits

  • Powerful Water Repellency – Helps prevent water penetration into porous construction materials.
  • Long-Term Protection – Designed to provide durable protection against moisture and water-borne contaminants.
  • Natural Appearance – Helps preserve the original look of stone and masonry without creating a visible film.
  • Salt & Efflorescence Protection – Helps limit the ingress of chloride ions and moisture-related salt problems.
  • Biological Growth Protection – Helps protect treated surfaces against biological contamination associated with moisture.
  • Vapour Permeable – Allows the substrate to breathe rather than trapping moisture within the material.
  • UV Stable – Suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications where appropriate.
  • Broad Construction Applications – Suitable for porous stone, concrete, masonry, landscape stone and other recommended construction materials.

🏗️ Ideal Applications

Defender SV is particularly suited to porous landscape stone, sandstone, pool surrounds, patios, block walls, building façades, heritage stone, concrete structures, walkways and other porous construction surfaces requiring water-repellent protection.

It can be used as part of preventative maintenance programs to help reduce moisture-related deterioration, weathering, staining and salt-related damage.

📐 Coverage

Coverage depends significantly on substrate porosity. Actichem indicates approximately 5–10 m²/L per coat on highly porous, open-structure substrates and 10–20 m²/L per coat on denser, less porous substrates. Large areas should be assessed using a predetermined trial coverage rate.

🛠️ Professional Application

The surface should be clean, dry and free from chemical residues before application. New concrete or construction materials must be fully cured before sealing. Defender SV is ready to use and is applied by suitable spraying or application equipment. Do not apply in direct sunlight, and always perform an inconspicuous test before treating the full area.

⚠️ Important: Defender SV is a highly flammable solvent-based product. Ensure adequate ventilation, keep away from ignition sources and use appropriate chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection. The SDS also warns that the product can dissolve rubber, many plastics, resins and some coatings, so substrate compatibility must be checked before use.

How to Use

  1. Prepare the surface – Ensure the surface is thoroughly clean, dry and free from dirt, stains, previous coatings and chemical residues.
  2. Check compatibility – Always perform a small test application in an inconspicuous area to confirm suitability and the desired appearance.
  3. Use undiluted – Defender SV is supplied ready to use and should not be diluted.
  4. Apply evenly – Apply the product uniformly to the porous surface using suitable spraying or application equipment. Ensure sufficient product is applied for the substrate to absorb it.
  5. Allow penetration – Allow Defender SV to penetrate into the porous material. Avoid allowing excess product to remain pooled on the surface.
  6. Apply a second coat if required – Highly porous substrates may require additional application according to the manufacturer’s recommendations and the absorption of the surface.
  7. Allow to cure – Keep the treated surface protected from moisture and contamination while the sealer cures. Follow the manufacturer’s recommended curing conditions.
  8. Check coverage – Coverage varies with porosity, approximately 5–10 m²/L on highly porous substrates and 10–20 m²/L on denser substrates.
  9. Safety precautions – Defender SV is a flammable solvent-based product. Use only with adequate ventilation and keep away from heat, sparks, flames and other ignition sources. Wear suitable gloves and eye protection.
  10. Important – Do not apply in direct sunlight. Check the SDS before use and ensure the product is compatible with the substrate, as the solvent may affect rubber, plastics, resins and some existing coatings.
